Seanad Report on Human Rights positively received by the UN

08.07.2014

UN Human Rights Treaties Division has published a very positive article about the recent initiative leading to the publication of the Seanad Public Consultation Committee’s Report on Ireland's Compliance with the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights, in its latest newsletter.

The article applauds the active role that the Irish Parliament has taken in the national treaty review process .The article also notes that all human rights treaty bodies encourage state parties to engage with stake holders from the wider society including civil society groups, NGOs, academia and individual advocates, as was done through this initiative.

Senator Zappone is the rapporteur of the Seanad Public Consultation Committee report.
